The Cults of the Unwavering I

Trying More Music Stuff and a Picture With Computer Generated Flowers

I’ve been doing a couple bits and pieces in REAPER lately, I’ve been playing guitar for years now but I’ve never been much good at writing anything original but I’m really enjoying using reaper to get things down and start to figure out how to arrange things. Just a lot of messing with different plugins and cutting up samples and playing with them and seeing where things land. Mostly just having fun and trying to make something that at least I find interesting and that I feel has thought me something.

On a technical side, Linux really doesn’t help with anything audio related, so far I feel it might be the one thing I couldn’t fault someone for doing on a different OS. I don’t think my sound card helps, it’s always caused me issues. Software wise, a lot of plugins aren’t compiled for Linux so you can be a bit limited for options, but I’ve been looking into it and it seems like there’s a couple of ways to tinker with them so that might be something I do next.

So for this one I came across this video about a theme made by Samsung for windows XP. I thought it sounded interesting enough so I downloaded it from the internet Archive, extracted it, and go the WAVs for the sound effects and also the wallpapers that were included. I rearranged them a bit and you can listen to the final product at the bottom of the page. I think I mostly learned about trying to write a melody and some bass doing this one, not an easy thing to do but I felt like I was getting a hang of some things while doing this one, at the very least getting better at placing the notes where I hear them in my head.

I’m also bundling PlantStudio with this post, I came across a screenshot of it on Instagram and knew I had to look it up, it really is one of the most beautiful pieces of software I’ve come across and I’ll definitely be using it more and giving it it’s own post. It can be got from here and I really recommend looking at the whole website. I made a quick plant with it to try and fit the theming of the site and put together a little cover photo using it and the samsung XP wallpaper and you can see that as the cover of this post.

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy these things :)
